The last MPCA meeting was held on June 14 to discuss:

National Historic Site – History was made when the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and Parks Canada “considered the national significance of Montgomery Place and recommended its designation” as a National Historic Site.

Neighbourhood Traffic – History will be made on September 1 when the traffic speed on Montgomery Place roads will be reduced to 40 kph. The 11th Street Bypass and the 3400 block of the original 11th Street will remain at 50 kph. The first archival record of Montgomery Place requesting, and being denied, a reduced speed limit is 1960.

Montgomery Place 70th Anniversary – Back to the 1940s – Save the date on September 17. See the schedule of events.

LAP Open House – A Local Area Planning (LAP) Open House was held June 23. City planners presented their findings, along with a concurrent Civic Operations Centre display.

LAP – After neighbour-to-neighbour safety surveys were conducted around Montgomery, Gougeon, Simonds and Walker parks, along with the McNaughton-Elevator area, a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) workshop was held on July 14. Safety audits were conducted around the neighbourhood.

Montgomery Park Rink Repairs – Thanks to Jim McAllister and his volunteer crew for the refurbishment of the surface and boards of the rink in Montgomery Park this summer. Thanks also to our generous sponsors: City of Saskatoon; Westbow Construction; CN; Viterra; and MP resident Wally Penner.

Drainage between Montgomery Park and Montgomery School – The drainage project to address the long-standing problem in Montgomery Park is still underway.

Poppies in the Park –Thanks to our green thumb volunteers, we have poppies at the cairn.

Dundonald Avenue – Resurfacing was completed in June.

MPCA Summer Classes from July 12-August 30 – Tuesday nights 5:45-6:30 pm – Outdoor Fitness – $40 – Also Outdoor Yoga from 6:45-7:45 pm – $40. Call Candace at 306-978-0261.

St. Barbe Baker Forest Clean-Up – Friends of the forest organized a very successful clean-up for July 9. At the meeting we met Julia Adamson who has volunteered to spearhead the care of this special urban forest.

Montgomery School – School resumes on Sept 1, with a Meet the Staff family picnic on Sept. 16 to coincide with the School’s 60th anniversary and Montgomery Place’s 70th anniversary.

St. Dominic School – School starts back on Sept 1. Community activities will be held in the school on Sept 16-17 in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Montgomery Place.

City of Saskatoon – Thanks to City crews who gave the paddling pool a new interior coating. With the current emphasis on spray parks, we’re lucky to have a paddling pool.
