Wind Turbine Project

On Monday January 16th, city council approved the recommendation of Saskatoon Light & Power to cancel the wind turbine project at the landfill. This bad project and the impact on our community has therefore been averted. We will have to remain vigilant however if Saskatoon Light & Power tries to resurrect a plan to construct a wind turbine in the future. They have been authorized by city council to monitor advances in technology in the future and report by mid 2014 regarding possible application.

With an amendment to the recommendation deleting reference to investigating future projects within the city limits, they were encouraged by council to consider possible partnership with Saskpower for any such venture outside city limits.

11th Street Development
At the same council meeting January 16th, city administration recommended to council that the land to be developed be divided into 2 parcels with the parcel which Northridge planned to sell to Seymour Pacific to build 3 apartment buildings going forward first. Council approved this recommendation and the public hearing on this proposed parcel of land going forward for development will be held March 12, 2012.

The development of this land by both companies remains a major concern to residents. The opinion of the public as noted in the media and the comments of councilors at the council meeting on the 16th indicate this will be a tough fight.

The community association would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee members in the wind turbine coalition for all their very hard work and long hours dedicated to this issue. THANK YOU TO DENIS GRIMARD, CHRIS FOSSENIER, DION BRICK & ROB COLLINS!!

We would also like to thank all the residents who stepped up to the plate and volunteered to petition door to door and deliver flyers to keep everyone informed. Without everyone’s help our lobbying would not have happened.

We know everyone will support the resident volunteers who will be working on the 11th Street Development issue as well.

Thanks, your Montgomery Place Community Association
