Neighbourhood Watch

By Heather Chapman

Spring is finally here! The warmer weather and longer daylight hours provide us with more opportunities for enjoying the outdoors in our backyards and parks. Unfortunately, it also provides criminals with more opportunities for criminal activities. Theft from unlocked vehicles continues to be a problem in the community. Remember to remove valuables and lock your vehicles at night. A number of door-to-door canvassers have been making the rounds at various hours seeking monetary donations. Some are representing legitimate organizations while others are questionable.

Last year hundreds of bicycles in the city were reported stolen. The Saskatoon Police Service has an online bike registry where you can enter the serial number and other information about your bike. This information may be helpful to police when trying to locate the rightful owners of any stolen bikes that are recovered. You can access the registry by visiting www.saskatoonpolice.ca.

You can help protect your property during the summer months by locking your gates and the doors to your house, garage, and shed. If you are going away on holidays, ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your place and to report any suspicious activity to police. In an emergency call 9-1-1 or for non-emergencies call 306-975-8300.

Thank you for helping to deter crime in our neighbourhood!
