The last MPCA meeting of 2015 was held on December 9. Discussion included:

LAP – The LAP traffic meeting on Dec. 8 proved a disappointment. In June 2015, residents attending said “Lower the speed limit in our community to 40 kph. We have narrow roads, deep ditches and no sidewalks. 50 kph is too fast.” We did not ask for sidewalks. Indeed with our surface drainage and ditch system, we cannot have sidewalks. What we asked for was a 40 kph speed limit to make our streets safer for everyone. Saskatoon Transportation officials said – No – then offered 28 other ways to slow traffic and make our roads safer.  Click here to read the report from the meeting.

West Connector Route – The Open House on Dec. 2 on the West Connector Route proposed three options, one of which was 11th Street West. We do not want highway traffic driving to Circle Drive on 11th Street – directly past our neighbourhood. Register your opinion with the project consultant. Email d.fast@fastconsulting.ca

Social Media Policy – VP Ben Schmidt has drafted a Social Media Policy which will be reviewed by members of the MPCA committee. Facebook is proving an effective tool for everything from lost cats and dogs to meeting notices and reminders. The 11th Street West Connector Route post was shared far and wide. People are interested and concerned.

Winter Indoor Programs – Registration for winter programs is Jan. 6, 2016 at St. Dominic School auditorium from 6:30-8:30pm. Click here for a list of classes. Enjoy a free trial of the proposed Walk Live class on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2-3pm at St. David’s Trinity United Church.

Montgomery Place 70th Anniversary – The date is set. Mark Sept 17, 2016 on your calendar to celebrate 70 years of planting trees and growing families in our special corner of the City.

Insurance on the Montgomery Place Cairn and Monument – Extra insurance was purchased to protect the stone cairn and the granite monument in Montgomery Park.

Rinks in Montgomery Park – Volunteer Rink Coordinator Jim McAllister and his volunteer crew have flooded the rinks in Montgomery Park. We have at least one Rink Supervisor who will supervise the family ice times on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm.

Distribution of MPCA Newsletter – We continue to hear from people who are not getting their newsletters. Please leave a message in your mailbox asking your letter carrier to ensure delivery of the MPCA newsletter. We are investigating ways to increase production and deliver to the 194 homes in Cypress Gardens.

Neighbourhood Survey – The MPCA will conduct a door-to-door survey in spring 2016. The MPCA will ask residents about their thoughts on garden and garage suites in our neighbourhood and (for the second time) if they support a decreased community speed limit.

Montgomery School – Welcome back to classes on Jan. 4. Family Literacy Day is Jan. 27, followed by the Kindergarten Information Night on Jan. 27 at 6:30pm in the Library. A solution to ongoing drainage problems is scheduled for spring 2016.

St. Dominic School – Welcome back. The Kindergarten Open House is 7pm on Jan. 21.

City of Saskatoon – Remember, Jan. 1, 2016 marks the start of a smoking ban in Saskatoon parks. The Downey Speed Skating Oval is open 2-8pm Mon-Thurs, closed Friday, open 10:15am-6pm Sat-Sun.

Next Meeting – Join us at the next MPCA meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at 7pm in the Montgomery School Library.
