The Montgomery Place Community Association (MPCA) met on November 6. Warm wishes for a joyful season from the MPCA Board. Neighbourhood activities of note include:
Remembrance Service – Sincere thanks to everyone who braved the cold northwest wind to attend the neighbourhood Remembrance Service on Nov. 11 in Montgomery Park. We were rewarded by warm beverages and cookies and a slide show of Montgomery Place veterans at the nearby St. David’s Trinity United Church. Contact Gwen Will or Leslee Newman with photos of Montgomery vets for next year.
Local Area Plan (LAP) – We did it! The Montgomery Place Local Area Plan was approved at the City Council meeting on November 19. Click here to see the report.
Discretionary Use Application – The information meeting organized by the MPCA for Nov. 7, regarding the application for discretionary use of the home at 3437 11th Street W as a Head Start preschool, was cancelled. Firstly, the venue was deemed too small. Secondly, it was realized that this was a City Planning responsibility, so we would await their call for another meeting. Thanks to the Scouts who delivered cancellation notices. Click here to see our letter to Montgomery Place residents.
200 Club – The 200 Club is no longer. Begun in the 1980s (we think) as a fundraiser for sports equipment for Montgomery Place teams, the 50-50 draw recently suffered from a lack of interest. A motion was made and passed that the 200 Club would be discontinued. Thank you to everyone who supported the 200 Club over the years.
Readers Needed – Share your love of reading with six year olds in Montgomery School. Grade 1 teacher Mrs. Wigelsworth came to the MPCA meeting to ask for help. If you can spare 20 minutes or more each week to sit one-on-one with a young student, please contact Gr. 1 Room Rep Amanda Roslinsky at 306-371-4714 or amanda.m.roslinsky@gmail.com or Debi Wigelsworth at WigelsworthD@spsd.sk.ca to volunteer. You will need a background check which the school will cover. Mrs. Wigelsworth has supplies for volunteers. Help light the love of reading in six-year-olds.
Indoor Programs – A search for instructors is underway. Our long-term Rhythmic Gymnastics and Hip Hop teacher is stepping down. Email programs@montgomeryplace.ca. Click here for the list of winter classes.
Community Rink in Montgomery Park – MPCA Vice-President Jim McAllister reports that flooding has begun. We should save on water with the repairs made to the base.
