The Montgomery Place Community Association (MPCA) met on October 2 for its Annual General Meeting. See the report here. Neighbourhood activities of note include:

Remembrance Service – The neighbourhood Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the cairn and monument in Montgomery Park beginning at 10:50 am. The short service will be followed by visiting over warm beverages and cookies in the lower hall of St. David’s Trinity United Church. A presentation of Montgomery Place veterans’ photos will be shown in the church sanctuary. This service is unique to our community. Bundle up and join many, many of your neighbours as we honour the wartime sacrifices that brought us to this time and place.

Indoor Programs – Email questions or comments to communications@montgomeryplace.ca . Watch for the winter class list in the December newsletter.

Community Rink in Montgomery Park – MPCA Vice-President Jim McAllister reports that he will be working on fixing up the small gate and the wire at the ends – and waiting for cooler weather to start flooding (not in a real hurry for this part, he said).

Community Watch – Facebook posts on Montgomery Moms and the MPCA site continue to alert residents of suspicious activity and criminal acts. Join our Community Watch Facebook group at www.facebook.com/MPCASK .

MPCA Facebook – Find community news at www.facebook.com/MPCASK .

Local Area Plan (LAP) – A final draft of the Montgomery Place Local Area Plan has been completed. A process that began in 2015 has resulted in a document that reflects the Second World War roots of Montgomery Place while providing a roadmap for the future. Sincere thanks to residents and a host of City of Saskatoon planners and other staff who have worked to produce the LAP. For further information on the Local Area Plan as it moves towards adoption please visit www.Saskatoon.ca/LAP .

Trains – Train delays in and out of the community continue. Shunting, operating and idling noises from Viterra and Chappell Yards do not abate.

Saskatchewan Health Authority – The SHA reminds residents that free flu immunizations began on October 22. See www.4flu.ca .

Montgomery School – The Remembrance Service is November 8 at 10:30 am. No school on November 9 & 12. Three-way conferences are November 22 & 23. No school November 23.

St. Dominic School – The Remembrance Liturgy will be November 8 at 10:45 am. No school November 9 & 12. Three-way conferences are November 22 & 23. The 8th annual Stocking Stuffer Market will be held from 9 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, November 24.

History Walk – MPCA President Barb Biddle conducted a history walk around the community for Grade 6-7-8 students at St. Dominic School on October 19. Thanks to Barb and participating teachers, students gain an appreciation of the roots of our neighbourhood through such walks.
