The Montgomery Place Community Association (MPCA) met on December 5 for its regular meeting. The MPCA executive extends best wishes for the new year to all in Montgomery Place. Discussion at the December meeting included:

Soccer Coordinator – Montgomery Place is in urgent need of a volunteer willing to coordinate soccer in our neighbourhood. Contact us before January 15 if you can help.

Montgomery Park Rink Hours – The Rec Building will be open 1-4 pm on weekends.

Community Rink in Montgomery Park – Rink Coordinator Jim McAllister is working to make ice. A volunteer crew is assembling. Call Jim at 306-380-6712 to offer your help. Two slightly-used nets have been purchased.

Roads – The 11th Street – Circle Drive intersection is a problem. Vehicles are consistently running the red light, especially big trucks. MPCA will ask the City Liaison Officer and the Saskatoon Traffic Department to investigate.

Trains – Long trains continue to frustrate our drives in and out of Montgomery Place, and probably account for some of the red light violations. People want to clear the intersection before oncoming trains arrive.

Local Area Planning (LAP) – Melissa Austin, LAP Senior Planner, is presently writing a draft of the Montgomery Place Local Area Plan.

MPCA Facebook – Check the MPCA Facebook for community news, and join our Facebook group to post or find out about the latest lost and found items or pets in Montgomery Place.

Indoor Programs – Registration Night for winter programs is January 10, 2018, 6:30-8 pm, St. Dominic School gym, 3301 Dieppe Street. Remember, the rules have been tightened – no early, late or online registrations. Register at the school, in person or send a friend.

Community Consultant – Chelsie Schafer reported that in December single-family homes in Saskatoon received personalized Recycle & Waste Calendar for 2018. This is the last year for the printed calendar, which is expected to save the City $400,000 over the next five years. Watch for pick-up times posted regularly on the front page of this newsletter or see
www.saskatoon.ca/services-residents/waste-recycling/collection-calendar. She also reported that parks in Montgomery Place are in the queue for No Dogs Off-Leash signs.

Responsible Pet Ownership – Dogs-at-large remain a serious concern around our community. Please – always keep pets on-leash. Letting pets run, particularly unleashed in the dark across our parks, clearly means you have no intention of picking up after them. Nor do you have your animal under control. Cats roaming at-large are no different. Please be responsible. Apparently, the off-leash area in the St. Barbe Baker Forest is also suffering with dog owners not picking up after their animals.

City of Saskatoon – Councillor Hilary Gough reported on the Council discussion of fire pits in the city. Regulations were passed.

Montgomery School – School is back on January 8, 2018. No school on January 29.  Kindergarten open House is January 15, 7 pm.

St. Dominic School – Classes are back on Monday, January 8, 2018. No school on January 29. Kindergarten Open House is January 30, 6:30 pm.

Next Meeting – The next meeting of the Montgomery Place Community Association is Tuesday, January 9, 2018 – 7 pm in Montgomery School. All residents are welcome.
