Local Area Plan
By Keith Folkersen, Senior Planner, City of Saskatoon
The Montgomery Place Local Area Plan (LAP) is currently being drafted by staff from the City of Saskatoon, Neighbourhood Planning Section and will soon be shared with the community.
In 2017, the Neighbourhood Planning Section conducted two important studies as part of the Montgomery Place LAP. The first study was a noise study that measured typical sound levels from multiple locations in the neighbourhood. The findings and community input provided a better understanding of the impact nearby noise generators have on the quality of life for Montgomery Place residents. The second study was a land use survey circulated to Montgomery Place residents and property owners, asking for feedback on current land uses and potential future land uses that would benefit the neighbourhood. An Open House was held in October 2017, which presented the results of these studies to the community.
With the information gained from the events, as well as from the various studies completed, the Neighbourhood Planning Section has been in discussions with various City of Saskatoon departments regarding strategies to address the opportunities and challenges that have been identified by Montgomery Place stakeholders. The Montgomery Place LAP will result in improvements and enhancements for the neighbourhood that will be implemented in the short, medium, and long-term.
Early drafts of sections from the LAP containing the background, goals, and the proposed recommendations for specific actions will be shared with the Montgomery Place Community Association and Montgomery Place LAP Committee for initial feedback within the next few weeks on the City Website at www.saskatoon.ca/LAP.
It is anticipated that the complete LAP report will be shared with the entire Montgomery Place community this spring at an Open House. The Montgomery Place LAP is expected to be submitted to City Council for adoption later in 2018.
