Saskatoon Light & Power is in the very early stages of exploring a proposal to set aside Parcel M between the CN tracks along Dundonald Avenue and Circle Drive South adjacent to the east side of Montgomery Place for a possible solar project.

The proposal is to designate the sloped hillside immediately east of the tracks that parallel Dundonald Avenue down to Circle Drive (called Parcel M) for a utility scale solar array installation. This project is in its infancy and meshes with the City’s goals associated with reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions, in part with sustainable energy production. There are a range of projects and opportunities being explored, the solar array being one.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our Facebook call for questions. Opinions of residents in Montgomery Place concerning the proposed solar field run the gamut from “No – no more industrial installations close by” to “All in favour of solar projects nearby or anywhere.” Councillor Hilary Gough brought forward questions from Montgomery Place residents at the City Council meeting on November 20.

Council voted unanimously in favour of Parcel M as a potential site for a solar array. Public consultations will now follow.
