The Montgomery Place Community Association (MPCA) last met on June 5 and meets again on September 4. Neighbourhood activities of note include:

Paddling Pool in Montgomery Park – Thanks to the staff who watched over out little paddlers, played games, made crafts and otherwise contributed to a happy summer for Montgomery Place kids and their families.

Parks – Thanks to the City Parks crew who maintained our parks all summer long. Deadfall in the aspen bluff in Montgomery Park remains a concern.

Indoor Programs – Fall Registration September 5, 6:30-8 pm – St. Dominic School gym. Click here for list of classes. Email communications@montgomeryplace.ca with questions.

MPCA AGM – The MPCA Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, 7 pm in the Montgomery School Library. Click here for more info.

Throws Pentathlon – On Saturday, September 8, Olympian Margaret Tosh has organized a Throws Pentathlon for Master athletes from across Saskatchewan, aged 52-81. The event gets underway just after noon on the concrete pad west of Montgomery School. Younger athletes will throw at the site in the morning. Five implements are thrown: hammer, shotput, discus, javelin and weight. Bring a chair and get ready for some impressive displays of athleticism.

Good Neighbours – Friends, neighbours and the community showed their care and compassion through their support of the Vetter Novakovski family who lost their home in the Crescent Boulevard fire on July 22. The families hoping to move into the other two homes that burned also have our sympathy.

Pet Owners – There are no off-leash areas in Montgomery Place. This includes the triangle of undeveloped City land between the 3300 block of the old 11th Street and the new 11th Street Bypass. Dogs, cats and any pets should not be off-leash anywhere in Montgomery Place. Pets cannot run at large. As responsible pet owners, you must pick up the poop.

Trains – It’s been a long summer with many, many train delays for drivers heading in and out of Montgomery Place, with no solution in sight. Train noise, especially during the night, continues relentlessly.

South Berm – The City plans to erect signs reinforcing the bylaw that forbids any vehicles from travelling on the berm. There will be fines for those in breach of the bylaw.

Be Safe – Share our roads. Drivers, respect our 40 kph speed limit, yield to pedestrians and watch for bikes. Pedestrians and cyclists, dress to be seen and obey road rules and safety.

Community Watch – Our new Community Watch Facebook group has over 50 members.

Local Area Plan (LAP) – City of Saskatoon planners Mark Emmons and Keith Folkersen are making progress drafting the Montgomery Place LAP. Click here for more info.

MPCA Facebook – Find community news at www.facebook.com/MPCASK

City of Saskatoon – Welcome to our new Community Consultant Shane Carter.

Montgomery School – School is back September 4.

St. Dominic School – School is back September 4.

Next MPCA Meeting – Join us Tuesday, September 4, 7 pm in Montgomery School. Representatives from the Fire Dept. and the City will join us to discuss fire safety and response time in Montgomery Place. Some residents are concerned about the number of fire hydrants, water flow and the weak water pressure encountered in some areas of the neighbourhood.
